Lehman Caves

We like hiking outdoors, but we won’t say no to a good exploration opportunity indoors. Indoors as in a cave. Lehman caves is one of the best we have been in.  Lehman Caves is within Great Basin National Park, near Baker, Nevada.  

The cave itself is a network of passageways. You will be in awe of the many stalactites and stalagmites. Color variations, pools of water, caverns, passageways galore. This cave is well worth the drive and the ticket cost to this middle of nowhere park. 

What really added to the experience was the highly knowledgeable Ranger that guided us through. He provided us background stories and interesting science tidbits for this science nerd to soak up. 

Difficulty: Easy to mild.

Trail Stats: The tour is 60-90 minutes. Mild elevation gain, you will need to be able to complete some stairs and be able to maneuver around a few stalactites and stalagmites.

Trail Finding: Easy, it is clearly defined where you should walk and the group stays together.

Conditions: You are in a cave, so it should be no surprise that it is cold and a bit damp. Wear a coat and hat.

Would I Repeat This: Yes, it was very educational and a really cool cave.

Parking: Plenty.

Timing: Reservations are required through Recreation.gov. Tours are offered all year round, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Days. 

Downloaded Map: Not needed, it is a Ranger-guided experience.

Fees: Lehman Cave is in Great Basin National Park. You will need to pay the park entrance fee or show your National Parks Annual Pass. The tour itself requires a separate ticket, prices vary per age and per tour you select.
