Chesler Park Viewpoint
Description
Come along with us as we tell you more about the lesser traveled district of Canyonlands National Park and the trail Chesler Park. Chesler Park Viewpoint trail is located in the Needles District. This location is south of Moab and the more commonly visited Island in the Sky District.
This hike has been one of our favorites. The geology is a wide variety, ranging from towering sandstone sheer rock faces to hamburger shaped rock formations to vistas of innumerable hoodoo-type rock towers. The terrain is variable, as is the elevation, so the distance did not feel long due to the beautiful scenery and the ‘up, down, around, and repeat’ nature of this trail. You will eventually arrive in an area that seems to be where you would think the viewpoint is since it in itself is spectacular. Continue onward and upward though because it is about to get better. At the actual Chesler Park Viewpoint, you have a great spot to stop for a break and be treated to the expansive, stunning views while you recharge for the hike out.
This hike was well worth the extra drive south to the Needles District if you are staying in the Moab area. If you leave enough time for a full day, you can get in numerous of the other shorter hikes listed in ‘Nearby Fun’.
