Wildhorse Window

Wildhorse Window is a short hike with a surprisingly grand end point. This area is best known for Little Wildhorse Canyon slot canyon. This particular hike involves walking on a rock ridge until this natural bridge is reached. There are two large alcoves to explore, one with the window. There are pictographs to view as well and a small seep springs. You will not likely see many other people, we enjoyed the solitude and grandeur of the alcoves on our own.

Before you ascend the rock ridge, there are spurs that lead to other slot canyons. The one next to the Wildhorse Window trail does have some varied colors though is not very narrow.

Difficulty: Mildly strenuous related to elevation change. Getting into the alcove without the window is challenging due to loose rock and steepness. The alcove with the window is easily accessible.

Trail Stats: 1.8 miles, out and back trail, elevation gain of 318 feet.

Trail Finding: Challenging. There is no marked trail once you begin to ascend the rock shelf.

Conditions: No shade until you are in the window area.

Would I Repeat This: Most definitely. This is a must see.

Parking: There is free parking with a marked trailhead.

Timing: If temperatures are expected to be high, complete this hike in the morning due to no shade.

Downloaded Map: Definitely. There is a clear trail for only a short time at the start. Once you descend into the wash from the parking lot, there is no marked trail. You will need the map to route find.

Fees: No fees for accessing this trail.

Trails: If there is no chance of rain, check out the spectacular Little Wildhorse Canyon nearby. Goblin Valley State Park is minutes away, where you can explore and be in and around a maze of hoodoos. The San Rafael Swell region is not far from this trail either.
